Staff Psychiatrist – Outpatient Behavioral Health | California Central Coast | $390K–$420K

Job description

We are seeking a Staff Psychiatrist for a full-time outpatient behavioral health opportunity on California’s beautiful Central Coast.

This is an excellent opportunity for a psychiatrist interested in community-based outpatient care with a predictable full-time schedule, no call, and highly competitive compensation. Physicians provide psychiatric care to adults, children, and/or adolescents depending on program assignment.

Compensation & Benefits

$420,000 annually – Full-Time Spanish-Speaking Outpatient Psychiatrist

Clinical Setting

This position provides outpatient psychiatric services within a community behavioral health setting.

The patient population may include adults, children, and adolescents with serious mental illness and complex behavioral health needs, including co-occurring substance use disorders and trauma histories.

Appointment Structure

During onboarding, appointments are scheduled as 60-minute initial assessments. Following onboarding:

Initial evaluations: 60 minutes
Routine follow-ups: 30 minutes
Complex follow-ups: 45 minutes
Bridge appointments: 30 minutes
Urgent appointments: 60 minutes

Adult psychiatrists can expect an active panel of approximately 200 patients per full-time FTE.

Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments
Provide ongoing psychiatric medication management
Respond to urgent and same-day clinical needs within the outpatient setting
Collaborate with therapists, case managers, clinic leadership, and multidisciplinary treatment teams
Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation
Participate in treatment planning, quality initiatives, utilization review, and medication monitoring as applicable
Provide culturally responsive, patient-centered care to a diverse population
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
Active, unrestricted California medical license
Active DEA registration valid in California
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience treating individuals with severe mental illness in an outpatient or comparable setting
Strong clinical, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Experience with behavioral health EHR platforms preferred
Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred but not required
