Position Overview:
Greenlife Healthcare Staffing is seeking a compassionate and skilled Recreation Therapist to provide structured therapeutic recreation services to children and adolescents receiving inpatient psychiatric care in Dix Hills, NY. The therapist will plan, implement, and evaluate individualized and group recreation programs that support treatment goals, improve social and coping skills, promote appropriate leisure participation, and contribute to each patient's overall rehabilitation and recovery.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education, or a closely related field required; coursework in therapeutic recreation or recreation therapy must be included
Experience in recreation therapy or structured therapeutic activities within a behavioral health, psychiatric, pediatric, developmental disability, rehabilitation, or residential treatment setting
Experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral or psychiatric needs strongly preferred
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential preferred
Current CPR/BLS and First Aid certification required
Must be able to pass required background checks, health screenings, immunization requirements, and facility clearance standards
Ability to complete mandatory facility orientation and training
Must be able to perform physical duties associated with supervising and conducting recreation activities

Key Responsibilities:
Assess patients' recreational interests, functional abilities, limitations, behaviors, and therapeutic needs to inform individualized treatment planning
Develop and implement individualized and group therapeutic recreation programs consistent with each patient's treatment goals
Conduct structured indoor and outdoor recreation activities that support emotional regulation, social interaction, communication, self-esteem, coping skills, and appropriate leisure participation
Adapt activities to meet the needs of patients with behavioral, cognitive, emotional, developmental, or physical limitations
Observe and document patient participation, behavior, progress, and response to therapeutic interventions
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, attendance, and outcomes
Apply approved behavioral support, crisis de-escalation, emergency, and safety procedures as needed
Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings and clinical team discussions
Inspect activity areas and equipment regularly for safety hazards and report concerns promptly
Maintain professional boundaries and uphold patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
Comply with all facility policies, infection control standards, treatment protocols, and applicable regulations
