General Surgery APP (PA/NP) – Surgical First Assist | Full-Time Coverage | New York

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with strong robotics experience to support a high-acuity surgical program. This is a full-time, ongoing opportunity starting in September, ideal for providers open to relocation and consistent monthly coverage.
Schedule & Coverage

Full-time: 4 weeks per month
Tuesday–Friday, 7a–5p
Call Opportunities:

1–2 weekends/month (Fri 5p – Mon 7a)
Weekend rounding: Sat–Sun, 8a–12p
Weeknight call: ~4 shifts/month (5p–7a)



Position Overview
This role combines Surgical First Assist duties in the OR with Medical-Surgical floor coverage. The provider will work collaboratively with surgeons and clinical teams to deliver high-quality patient care across multiple specialties.
Clinical Responsibilities

First assist in surgical procedures (including robotics)
Cauterizing vessels and tissues
Placement of clamps and sutures
Closing surgical sites (sutures, staples, adhesives)
Maintaining hemostasis and controlling bleeding
Assisting with suction, drainage, and irrigation
Proper patient positioning and immobilization in the OR
Supporting surgical exposure and circulation management
Floor coverage duties:

Patient rounding and progress notes
Order management, consults, and discharges



Patient Population

Adults with a broad range of acute conditions
Case mix includes:

General Surgery
OB/GYN
Orthopedics



Unit Details

Total Beds: 109
Patient Ratio: 1:10–15
EMR: EPIC
Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
Team Structure:

1 Provider
1 NP
1 LPN
Anesthesia support in all procedures



Requirements

Active NP or PA certification
Minimum 2 years of recent surgical experience
Robotics experience required
Active AHA certifications:

BLS
ACLS
ATLS


Active state license
