Job Description

A leading healthcare system in Eureka, California is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Anesthesiologist for an ongoing locum tenens assignment. This opportunity offers a dynamic mix of scheduled clinical hours and call coverage while working alongside an experienced anesthesia team in a busy inpatient setting.

Providers will administer anesthesia for a variety of surgical procedures, including obstetric cases, participate in shared weekday and weekend call rotations, and collaborate closely with surgeons, nursing staff, and perioperative teams. New providers are gradually introduced to night coverage after completing several weeks of daytime orientation with experienced colleagues.

Job Responsibilities
Administer anesthesia for a variety of surgical procedures
Provide perioperative patient evaluations and anesthesia planning
Monitor patients before, during, and after anesthesia administration
Participate in weekday, night, and weekend call rotations
Respond to emergency anesthesia cases and call-back situations
Provide obstetric anesthesia coverage as scheduled
Collaborate with surgeons, CRNAs, nursing staff, and surgical teams
Maintain accurate documentation using Epic EMR
Deliver safe, evidence-based anesthesia care

Qualifications
MD or DO
Board Certified in Anesthesiology or Board Eligible
Active California medical license
Active DEA registration
Eligible for hospital credentialing
Comfortable providing inpatient and obstetric anesthesia services
Willingness to work evenings, nights, weekends, and shared call schedules
Strong communication and teamwork skills

Approximately 1–2 weeks per month
7–14 shifts per month

Weekday Shift Options

OB Shift

In-House: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Night Call: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Evening Shift

In-House: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Night Call: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Weekend Coverage
Shared weekend call rotation
24-hour beeper call coverage as scheduled
Additional Information
Guaranteed 8 clinical hours per shift
Overtime applies after 12 hours
Providers will initially work day shifts before transitioning to night coverage
