Locum Cardiac Surgeon | Long Beach, CA | 1 Week/Month Call Blocks | Adult Cardiac & TAVR Support

Job description

Start: November 2, 2026 (or as soon as credentialed)
Length: 13 weeks (open to extension)
Coverage: 24-hour call coverage for adult cardiac surgery, including first assist, inpatient rounding, TAVR support, and standby for lead extractions
Schedule: Standard 24-hour call blocks, 8:00-8:00; structured as approximately 1 week per month; day, swing, night, and weekend coverage included
Call: Averages 1 in 3 rotation; after-hours is beeper call with a requirement to remain within 30 minutes of the hospital
Volume: Currently light case volume
Practice Setting: Acute care hospital; no outpatient clinic and no separate admin time
Procedures: Adult cardiac surgery; TAVR backup; lead extraction standby. No thoracic, no LVAD, no transplant.

Provide cardiac surgery call coverage alongside a team of cardiac surgeons
Serve as primary surgeon on some cases and first assist on others
Round on inpatients and support TAVR cases as needed
Coordinate with intensivists managing CVICU patients, with potential co-management
Timely documentation in Epic

Requirements
Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Active California license and DEA required
Epic experience required
Recent case logs/volume documentation required for privileging
Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 not required
Must be able to remain within 30 minutes of the hospital while on call

24-hour call blocks, 8:00-8:00
Approximately 1 week per month
Call rotation averages 1 in 3
